    Best Apollo to Date

    As an owner of the first “silverface” thunderbolt enabled Apollo Quad over a decade ago, as well as being a long time user of other iterations over the years, the sound quality of the “Gen 2” x8p , paired with exceptional customer service has left me with no regrets going with the newest generation. I had hoped for 8 sharc processors and thunderbolt 4 or 5 connectivity for the latest gen 1U rack-mount, but being able to utilize both unison in 8 slots or shift to native while mixing, all while integrating older models and my plug in collection into the existing ecosystem makes me happy to upgrade. I have been using the Sound ID Monitoring software, along with Apollo Monitor Correction as well. I see a lot of potential there, though I feel some things still need to be addressed on that end for a more optimized experience, I’m going with 5 stars as I’m confident UA will address what’s needed in the software industry end as well as insure that the x8p G2 performs at peak levels on the hardware end as technology continues to evolve.     A great upgrade, the converters alone are worth it

    Finally a new generation of the Apollo! I own four, basically one from each generation and I have to say the converters on this generation are a noticeable step up. All the connectors are the same so it was very easy to swap out my older 8xp for this one (keeping the other one for more chips!). Everything works as you would expect, not a lot of changes on the front except the build quality is a bit nicer all the way around, I love the new buttons and graphics. Haven't done a ton of recording on it yet but so far it seems to be a bit better on the A/D for all my old Moogs. Definitely the monitoring is better sounding, a bit more definition and maybe a touch more warmth? Or maybe it's just Im hearing more with the better converters. Could have used a couple of more chips but with the Spark collection growing so fast perhaps it won't make a difference going forward. Super happy I made the move!

Carefully consider the number and type of inputs and outputs you need, as well as how much real-time UAD-2 Apollo plug-in processing you think you might need. All Apollo X models also include a talkback microphone. You can consider a USB Apollo if you have a Windows PC without an available Thunderbolt 3 or 4 port.

The Apollo x6 supports up to 5.1, Apollo x8 / x8p support up to 7.1, and Apollo x16 / x16D support Dolby ATMOS immersive audio, up to 9.1.6. A Thunderbolt Twin X or x4 can be added to the monitoring system to remotely control the volume of the rack Apollo.

Yes, you can combine up to four Thunderbolt Apollos, one of which can be a desktop Apollo such as the Twin X or x4.

This refers to the number of SHARC DSP processors in the Apollo. Onboard DSP processing allows you to run realtime UAD plug-ins with near-zero latency. A DUO core system has twice the amount of processing power compared to a SOLO core system.

You can combine Thunderbolt Satellites with Apollos, up to the maximum of six Thunderbolt UAD-2 devices. Note that Satellites provide DSP to run UAD-2 plug-ins in your DAW, but do not provide additional realtime DSP for Apollo and UAD Console.
