It's magic
I put it on a drum bus and the drums are like jumping right in your face, without penetrating. Warm and smooth. It gives voices a nice "body" just running through the chain. And then u start playing with the buttons, and the magic goes on...

Fantastic Emulation
Having used the originals in the 80's I can truly say that this plug-in captures the full LA-2A vibe, right down to the distortion when its pushed hard.
Take this, the 1071 input, and maybe the 1081 eq and strap them in the console app and you won't be disappointed.
Fantastic on vocals or really any full-range source.

1176: The essential compressor
I just had to take a moment to say how great the UA 1176 compressor collection is. As soon as I tried the demo, I was hooked and bought it the same day. The UA 1176 adds character and loudness without making things sound compressed, and it's become part of my go to vocal chain along with the LA-2A. Just a touch of the 1176 to catch the peaks, and the LA-2A to even things out and add a glow, and you're golden! Superb!

LA-2A collection review
I've been using the LA2A collection for nearly a year now I believe and have really implemented it as part of my main dynamic control tools.
Favorite applications:
1. Leave vocals - 1176 with slow attack, fast release followed by the LA2A grey getting about 2-3 db of compression on the high spots.
2. Drum Overheads - tames harsh cymbals and pulls everything in together.
3. Bass - Typically with bass, Ill stack the LA2A first and get maybe 2-3 db on the high spots, then add another compressor (often 1176) behind the LA2A to give a slightly more constant compression.
I typically prefer the Grey and Silver models, but each has its own vibe Also really love the emphasis control. This is a MUST when used on vocals.

Amazing sound and value, buy this!
As soon as I tried out the LA-2A collection demo, I had to have it. It really sweetens every vocal I've tried it on, and having three LA-2A's to pick from depending on the sound I'm looking for is just incredible. Combine this with the 1176 collection and your vocal chain will sound first class. I can't believe that I now have the sound of this legendary hardware in my DAW for this kind of money.

Great plugins but Satellite still unstable
I would give the plugins themselves a 4 star review.
However the UAD Satellite still remains an unreliable piece of equipment, unsuited to professional application for those who need gear that works ALL the time.
On a good day I will only have 2 or 3 crashes but usually I have many more, and often at crucial times. I don't have this problem ever with my UAD solo laptop, and so its clear that the Firewire drivers are the issue here
I would rather see this issue remedied than new plugins and promotions being released.
Its a shame to see UAD abandoning their existing customer base

The fairchild collection is really great, I hold my head like george martin used to.
Why 4/5 stars? because They gave me a special coupon reduced price 224$ and now you can have..it for 149 $.
They said: because you are a good client..

I am very happy that I can simulate a recording studio in the early years with UAD. In addition your great product maintenance. Very beautiful is in your instructions, which will once explained the history of the equipment. This is music history!

I would very much appreciate it if you would a real Vox Amp (Ac 15/30) model. It would be very nice fit to the echoes of Maestro and Roland.

Fantastic
Works like an instrument and becomes part of the mix. I've tried other LA-2A Clones and Similar Plugs, and this collection, particularly "The Silver" has become a go to and in every mix.

Great Product!
I can use the Fairchild 660 to fatten up any guitar, vocal or bass track it works great as a plugin with softy be amp room too when tracking to warm up the sound on anything especially when lining in. a $50,000 compressor in my personal recording arsenal for $299.00! Thanks UAD!

Musical compressors
I'm really happy with these compressors, they are very musical. The AE version is a nice bonus with its 2:1 ratio setting for a more subtle character.

Drums and Vocals
This compressor works wonders on the drum bus, the kick drum, and any vocal tracks. Great for adding density or thickness, as well as "gluing" the stereo mix together. The Fairchild ranks alongside the LA-2A and 1176 as must-have compressors for any aspiring producer/mix engineer.

actually flexible
Between the 3, you have a lot of options. If you want to keep it fast, keep the gain reduction low.
You can also use LA3A beforehand it it gets pushed back too far.

again and again these guys churn out the most musical and true to life plugins in the business. these pultecs are no exception. in an unexpected turn of events, i find myself using the mid frequency module a lot. the biggie and hi/lo cut units are amazing too!
