3D for your ears
Obviously most of us cannot afford the hardware version of this beast. So I do not have a way to compare, but look; this is the best piece of software for mastering that I have. It simply adds that 3D-ishness that I hear in some great recordings that unless you hear it for yourself, you cannot understand. Save your money and get it. Outstanding, well done, now: Let's get to work on stable drivers huh;)....Cheers…

Shawdow Hills Mastering Comp Plug-In
Being that I have dreamed of someday buying the Shawdow Hills Mastering Comp, it looked like it would be a while,,,but when I saw the plug-In, I thought I have nothing to lose, and I was right did not lose on this investment. I have only had the plug-In for a short time, and I have been using it on drum samples. I use the preset Modern preset, immediately noticed a difference, the snare had a snap, and the hi-hats and cymbals had a nice crisp sizzle, thats the best way I can explain it. I have a "Project Studio" using a 2009 Mac Pro PT 10, Digi 002. Using on sub mix and master for some songs, I get a boost without eating up all the head room. if you want to hear what is described as "Breathing type of pump" its there. Great value

Really glues the mix together
This is an amazing emulation of a sick mastering compressor. Really makes the mix come together like an album track. the option to turn off either the discrete or optical compressor is an amazing feature for a wide variety of colorful, but rich sounds. love the release knob switch.

I have demoed the SHMC just before a mastering project,
and i must say that after listening to the mastering presets I was so pleased with the sound, that I just had to buy it !!!
I don't know the hardware but this plug adds warmth and a sense of space in the mixes and loudness without sounding too digital
like the GUI too !!!

Shadow Hillls Compressor Review
As a solo-flexi user I have so many UAD plugins but I can only use a few before I run out of resources. This plug-in only takes 6% CPU so I felt it would be a good investment as I really enjoyed trying it out. This compressor is very transparent and no color added unless you want it.
I actually prefer this one over the Slate compressor that does something strange to the sound in a colored way that turns me off. This is a quality plug-in but for us solo flexi users you cannot find a better compressor. I don't know how they made it work so well with taking only 6% of the solo-flexi's power. I have to say its the best compressor plug-in I've ever purchased. Lots of flexibility, but the sound is just right. Very flexible in its controls.

Fantastic tool
This compressor sounds fantastic, it is now my go to busses and master compressor. It really sounds like a hardware compressor and brings life to the mix. I highly recommend it !

Master Bus Mojo
All I can say is this plugin makes my master buss glow with just a bit of character I can't do without . I just load the master buss preset and just kiss it a little on the GR meter. My clients Love it too.

My Secret Weapon
I'm sure glad I have the plugin version, 'cause I'd go broke without how often I'll use this thing in a mix. Drum buss, parallel compression, Master buss, sometimes to squash the crap out of a crazy bass synth, and DEFINITELY on every mastering session. It seems like too many knobs but it's SO simple to use. I just wish the lettering was bigger around the knobs.

das bisher schwächste Plugin in meiner Uad Sammlung. Wenn ich durch die Presets fahre, höre ich kaum Unterschiede. So ist das wohl bei uns Produzenten Laien. Hier muss man wissen was man tut.

Why The Hate?
I'm not sure why there's so much hate for this plugin in the reviews, equating it to Izotope? good god, ugh.
Look. There are certain tools for certain jobs, and writing off this compressor because it failed at whatever you attempted it on only shows lack of understanding of your appointed skills as an engineer/mixer.
Do I use this on instrument busses? vocals or guitars? Nope.
Slap this on your two-bus, and forget the presets. Set the thresholds on both compressors as needed to just "tuck" the transients back, flip the side-chain on, and flip between Nickel, Iron, and Steel to find the right "glue" for your mix. Now tell me your mix doesn't feel that bit of extra life brought to it.
This is not a plug in for heavy hands, period.

Very useful & sweet sound
Though it may not match the hardware in the video demo (where drums are slammed over 10dB) that doesn't negate the usefulness of this dual comp. It has a nice sound and color & it is very helpful on mixes and mastering. Great curves, nice transformer sounds, flexible dual comp. Better than the SSL & another recently released VCA/Mu bus comp. A mastering comp should not impart too much alteration on the mix, and this guy is appropriately subtle. I love it, though I wish UA did the coding. They seem to know more about transformer & tube modeling (Vari-Mu please!). Still, full marks from this ITB mastering guy.
