Warm and Silky
Anything you run through this EQ gets a pleasing roundness about it!! And since it's not a graphical EQ, you have to rely on what feels good!!!

Great Plate
I only need one really good reverb. I don't care what kind. I chose this one and so far it sounds great. I don't like to leave 5 starts for anything since I'm hoping something better will come along. This reverb sounds great, makes me happy.

Downward Expansion is Superb
I knew nothing about the plug-in until I took Tim Tippets' course on audio production. This box, in tandem with other ingredients in Tim's "secret sauce," handles downward expansion like a dream when set up properly. The quiet that shows up between phrases is just the right amount. It's a quiet, smooth transition from phrasing to the noise floor.

Empirical Labs EL8 Distressor
I can't say I have worked with the hardware so I can't compare the accuracy of the emulation, but this plug in sounds great for colorful compression. The EL8 can really crush source material without the unpleasant artifacts. Excellent on drum buses or single percussive sources, but can be used for "everyday" compression and dynamics control at more moderate settings on vocals, bass, and (I haven't tried it yet but probably) horns.
I have the Fairchild, LA-2A, and 1176 plug-ins too. The EL8 is a great compliment to those rather than a "me too".

I bought Apollo and got this plug-in for free. However, I bought the Ultimate Bundle and this plug-in became a meaningless gift.

dbx 160 - Instant Classic
The dbx 160 delivers instant classic sound and works marvelously well not just on a snare. The sound is four stars at least. Unfortunately, the interface feels like a relic from the 90s. The tiny graphics and low resolution of the interface take the fun out of this plugin and render it almost unusable in a professional setting. UA, please update the interface and make this plugin usable again. Thank you!

LA-3A - Oldie but Goldie
The Teletronix LA-3A feels like it was developed ages ago but still sounds pretty good and does its job. Soundwise this plugin still deserves at least four stars.
The big downside are the tiny graphics and the low resolution of the interface. I wish UA would update older plugins to meet current display technology. I find myself not using the plugin too often as it is not exactly easy on the eyes. The interface is really small and looks terrible not just on a Retina display.
UA, please update the interface and make this plugin usable again. Thank you!

I never owned the pre, but could use the analog one. And if I compare now UniversalAudio did a great job by making this preamp digital in real time.

Capitol Chambers
The UA Capitol Chambers plugin is as advertised, if not better. I am really pleased with how it performs on vocal tracks, as well as drums. Just feels right.
