DBX-160, magic for drums
One of the finest VCA compressors ever built. Has a very simple front panel, so easy to use.
Has rough, warm and grainy punch.
The only problem is that GUI is so tiny... Would love to see an upgraded version with larger front panel.
.
Just has 'that' sound.
After owning the LA2A Legacy version I was putting off getting the updated version but the newer versions knock the legacy version out the water completely. Different league of plugin. The LA2A just has that positive effect that when you stick it on a vocal it just works. Only problem is now I need more DSP power...

analog tape fatness!!
This plugin is amazing. I produce hip hop music and this plugin gives my music the grit & fatness of 90's hip hop. Its not to get that sound while mixing in the box but this plugin solves the problem. Its killer on samples, drums, and vocals. It makes drums sound more punchy and adds character on vocals. On the stereo bus it rounds off the top end in a very pleasant way that brings fullness to master. It definitely controls the brittleness thats associated with digital audio. It really smooths everything out. If you guys are familiar with Dr Dre and the Chronic record, this plugin will definitely help to achieve the sonic flavor of that album. This plugin deserves 10 stars!!! Great job UAD

The Vocals Comp
The la2a is the vocals compressor to have, work great on guitar and more, a must have. Get it now.

The Best Guitar Comp
Great plugin, my favorite guitar compressor, work great on the vocals too, very easy to use, sound like a 1176 and a la2a on one box, a must have.

Drum juice.
Excellent on drums

Using it sparingly for the difficult sounds
I have bought this one but use it only in combination (parallel or serial) with other comps like Fairchild or 1176. Only gets out of the closet for the difficult sounds (really badly recorded guitars for example). Could live without it.
G. Hout
My standard EQ for years now
Can just do wonders to the low and top ends where most of the problems are. Really smooth. I use it in combination with a Neve 1081 (this provides the bite and presence).

A very good but specific sound
Use it only on single tracks and rarely on the buss. I can't figure out why people use it on the master buss. If you're after that sound it does a very good job (for me on vocals and guitars). Don't overdo it or will sound harsh. That said I use it very often and even bought the upgrade from the classic.

Has become my standard reverb
Use it for tracking (in my Apollo) and then logically it stays in the mix also. Good for vocals especially I think. Using less and less my Lexicon native reverbs. Prefer it over the EMT140 too.

Must Own This Plugin!
I shied away from this plugin in the beginning because of the price tag. Once you use it, you'll not want to mix without it. It's that good. I use it on my busses. All of their tape plugins are fantastic. I use the Ampex on the master buss, and I'll use Oxide on individual tracks.

Perfect companion to the Studer and Ampex
Although I own both the Studer and the Ampex as well, the Oxide is brilliant for instant tape saturation with minimal tweaking of parameters. Just dial in the input and output for quick and easy harmonic distortion. Don't be fooled by the appearance of the plugin though, it uses as much DSP as the Studer.

The sound of analog tape
Really helps to recreate the sound of analog tape when slapped on many different channels of a mix. It gives a nice tape saturation just by engaging the plugin and allows for creative effects when cranked to more extreme settings. Subtle but smooths out the top end and adds weight to bottom end.

Best vari-mu compressor
The Fairchild is beautiful on many different audio sources especially on drums and bass. Even when the compressor is overworked and starts to pump, it gives a nice vintage analog sound to drums by bringing up the room character. Also sounds great on the mix bus with gentle settings.

Great update from UAD
This latest version of the 1176 collection is one of the best i've heard. The blue stripe is my go-to for vocals. Helping them sit right up front in the mix. Awesome work yet again Universal Audio.

FANTASTIC!
I've been working for years now with the Waves Puigchild and recently got the IK Multimedia fairchild emulation which was quite good and got the job done. But as soon as I bought a UAD Satellite with the fairhcild collection I realized that Waves and IK Multimedia were lacking everything, LIFE, COLOR, SATURATION, DISTORTION are unparralleled with the UAD version!

Great love the real tape sound that it gives to a track, the ability to work in the digital world with a warm analog sound...the best

Extremely Accurate and Ideal for That Tight Up Close Drum Sound
In the past two months I have been tracking drums that are almost exclusively close miked. The project demands a dry, up-front sound circa 1976. The 160 on the drum bus really brings the sound together in a special way. It has a lot of color and punch, so it's perfect for some things, but not ideal for all applications. That is my humble two cents.
